South Coast Botanic Garden Glow 2021

The 2021 South Coast Botanic Garden’s GLOW (or Garden Lights & Ocean Waters) has been reimagined for its sophomore year. Per South Coast Garden, “Guests can expect a better and brighter experience. Food, drinks, music, and a transformative Garden featuring thousands of lights will have you hanging on the beach, drinking cocktails on the bayou, and chasing waterfalls. And a stunning kelp forest will take your breath away and spark your interest in the beauty of the sea. This year’s exhibit also includes interactive experiences and themed nights.”

When you attend Glow at South Coast Botanic Garden, play special attention to:

  • Different plant materials absorb and reflect light differently
  • The mixing of colors as the light opens up higher in tree canopies.
  • As you walk down the Promenade of GLOW, make sure you look around as there’s a special surprise that is non-light related!
  • There are MANY Instagrammable moments, especially on the Bayou.
  • The lights will change depending on your angle.
  • Take your time and look in front, behind and above you. The scene changes all around!
  • The one way paths from last year are no longer! Feel free to walk GLOW from different directions and explore previously closed off pathways.

Fun Facts About the Glow Exhibit

South Coast Botanic Garden will be using two and a half times as many lights as they did last year for the GLOW event.

The GLOW photo opportunity on the Upper Meadow began as Valentine’s Day installation. With a swap of a G and a W, the LOVE letters became GLOW. Who knows what programmatic creativity awaits – so far they’ve come up with the hair-brained idea of hosting a “MOLE” day, “OWL” day and “GLOVE” day.

They’ve created the Garden’s first enamel collector’s pin in honor of GLOW with TWO new pins. One features their signature hummingbird logo and glows in the dark, while the other is more plant-focused. You can check them out at the GLOW retail kiosks!
