I’ve always wanted to go for an afternoon tea at Chado Tea Room. Not coz’ I’m into teas, but something about three tiers of sandwiches and scones really appealed to me. So, when we were scheduled to visit the Japanese American National Museum to check out the Hello Kitty Exhibit, I had to make sure we visit the Chado Tea Room which is housed in the same building.
During our visit, a Hello Kitty Tea Service was being offered in conjunction with the Hello Kitty 40th Anniversary Celebration, so we tried that instead of the regular afternoon tea.
The Hello Kitty Tea Service included a pot of tea, sandwiches cut in different Hello Kitty shapes, Hello Kitty scones & Hello Kitty chocolate, all for $25 per person.
We ordered two tastings and shared it with the kids. My sister in law’s choice of tea was the Rooibos Blended Tea, while I ordered the Apple Spiced Herbal Chai Tea, both were equally good.
When the three-tier scones platter came out, the kids were all in awe, okay, the adults too. LOL.
We were all just very excited. But not only did the food looked good, but they also tasted good. The Chicken cranberry sandwich & the scone with their really yummy cream were my favorites. The chocolates could have been better, but it was a nice touch nonetheless.
I would suggest dining alfresco at Chado Tea Downtown, especially with the sounds of the waterfall making the entire afternoon tea very serene.
We also got to order the Hello Kitty Hungry Hunt scone (exclusive to the 40th-anniversary celebration) with cold tea that came with the Hungry Hunt pin, all for $10. There was a line outside for this, but they let us order ours sans the line since we’re already eating in.
I would love to go back to Chado Tea room to try their non-Hello Kitty high tea service next time. We dined at Chado Downtown LA, but there’s also Chado Tea in Hollywood, Pasadena, and Torrance.
Chado Tea Room also had the 3 Hello Kitty Tea flavors for sale in this cute little canister. My sister in law ordered the tea that we didn’t get to try. She’s not the biggest fan of TEA, I think.. just Hello Kitty. I doubt she’ll be opening that canister. I should ask her how it tasted like, haha.
We got really full and had a pleasant experience there. We then proceeded to the Hello Kitty Exhibit then went to check out the Hello Kitty Suite at The Line Hotel. Yes, the whole day was about Hello Kitty and it was so much fun.
Hope you guys enjoyed this Chado Tea Room review. Til our next foodie adventure, ciao!
