Legoland California Hotel Guide

Staying at the Legoland Hotel is an experience in itself. If you can, you literally need to separate your trip to Carlsbad, CA just for the hotel and another trip for the theme park to truly maximize your stay. Save another day for the water park as well.

To make sure you get the best of your stay, here’s our Legoland Hotel Guide for things you need to know before going or before booking a stay at Legoland Hotel. Make sure to also read our 32 Tips for LEGOLAND California to help you plan your trip.

LEGOLAND HOTEL IS WALKING DISTANCE TO THE THEME PARK

If you’re looking for a hotel near Legoland California. Legoland Hotel is located right at the main entrance of the theme park. We can see the ticket booth and gate from our room, that’s how close it was to the park.

LEGOLAND CASTLE HOTEL

Legoland added 250 more rooms with the addition of Legoland Castle Hotel. It opened in 2018 and is next to the original Legoland Hotel, so both are now within walking distance of the theme park’s front entrance.

Legoland Castle Hotel features LEGO Castle décor throughout featuring knights, princesses, dragons, wizards and more. The pool area has fountains, slides and play features. And a new themed restaurant you can try – Dragon’s Den Restaurant & Bar. And of course, your choice of a Knight, Wizard or Princess themed room!

Legoland Hotel is on the right of the park’s entrance while Legoland Castle Hotel is on the left. Read up on which Legoland Hotel is better with our detailed comparison of the 2.

Other Hotels near Legoland California

In case you’re booking last minute and cannot get a room though, your next best option is Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa which gives you back access to Legoland California. It’s definitely not LEGO themed, but is perfect for families who just wants to rest after a day at the park or midday naps with the toddler.

EXCLUSIVE EARLY ACCESS TO THE THEME PARK

LEGOLAND Hotel guests get exclusive early access to select rides and attractions before the Park opens to the public. All guests age 3+ must have a valid Park admission ticket and a pop up badge (given during check-in). Early entry time varies seasonally, up to one hour prior to Park opening. It can be as early as 9AM. When we stayed, the park regular opening was at 10AM and we were let in at 930AM.

Legoland Express, Safari Trek, Fairy Tale Brook, Ninjago The Ride, Coast Cruise and Coastessaurus are rides that you can get on this early. We immediately walk to the right upon entering the theme park to ride Ninjago, our favorite (arm exercise) ride. LOL! There were people lining up already that didn’t have hotel badges, so make sure to show the attendant your badge so you can go walk in straight to the ride. Yey, no line!

LEGOLAND HOTEL FREE BUFFET BREAKFAST IS AMAZING

Complimentary breakfast buffet is included for all LEGOLAND Hotel guests at Bricks Family Restaurant located at the ground floor of the hotel and you shouldn’t miss it. There’s a “Just for Kids Buffet” where they lowered their buffet counter just for the kids and a live action cooking station for omelets and the like! Children 2 and under eat free.

There’s fresh smoothies, milk and choco milk. Tons of bacon, waffles, cheese blintzes, smoked salmon, all sorts of breads, parfaits, ice cream, sausage, pancake, oatmeal, eggs of your choice, cereal, coffee, tea, drinks, etc. I’d say literally everything you can think of when you think when you enumerate breakfast food is available at Bricks Restaurant. I’m curious to try their dinner buffet (extra cost), we’ll try next time.

When checking in to get your room card, you will be given 3 dining time options and a card that indicated your seating time. 7-8, 8-9, or 9-10. I went with the 7-8, but don’t worry, they won’t kick you out if you get there at 745 and want to keep eating. It’s just their way of balancing the crowd. If you also miss your time, let’s say you overslept, you can still dine, just note that they close at 1030AM.

BUFFET OR ALA CARTE DINNER AVAILABLE

To enjoy the nightly kid’s entertainment at the hotel. I would suggest dining at the hotel. Your options are either to grab a buffet at Bricks Family Restaurant or go Ala Carte at Skyline Cafe. You can also sit back and relax at Mini’s Lounge with a glass of beer or wine while you watch your kids enjoy the Hotel’s evening entertainment adjacent to it.

LEGOLAND ROOM SERVICE IS AVAILABLE

Should you want to just eat in your room, room service is available at Legoland Hotel from 7AM to 1030AM and 11AM to 10PM.

MAKE SURE THE PARK IS OPEN WHEN YOU BOOK A HOTEL STAY

Legoland California is not open year round so make sure the Park is open during your stay unless you really are just booking to enjoy the hotel. LEGOLAND California is open daily during spring break, summer and select holiday periods. The Park is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays during select seasons.

BOOK AHEAD: LEGO THEMED ROOMS

Choose from various LEGO themed room – Pirate, Kingdom, Adventure, LEGO Friends or LEGO NINJAGO. We stayed at the Adventure Theme, it’s like being in Egypt.

We would have preferred a LEGO Friends room but it was sold out together with LEGO Ninjago Room when I was trying to book a month before our stay, so book ahead.

A LEGOLAND HOTEL ROOM FITS 5

A queen bed for the parents and a separate area has the bunk bed for the kids with pull out below it so 3 kids can fit.

GET YOUR CAMERA READY

The elevator is so much fun! I took a video of the kids every time we rode the elevator coz’ once it closes, it gets dark, the disco ball lights up, music starts and the kids start dancing. Even when it was 7 in the morning. Haha. So make sure you get your video cam ready and don’t tell them about the disco elevator. Nothing beats impromptu dancing.

LEGO PLAY

Enjoy interactive LEGO features throughout the Hotel, including a castle play area and giant pit of LEGO bricks in the main lobby. Plus, LEGO comes to life inside every room, with LEGO models and surprises around every corner!

LEGOLAND HOTEL CHARACTER MEET & GREET

Mornings from Friday to Monday. Keep an eye out for adventurers, princesses and pirates as they roam around the lobby. 830AM, 930AM & 1030AM.

They’re also available at Bricks Restaurant during breakfast and dinner. We didn’t get to experience seeing the characters, the food overwhelmed me (in a good way).

NIGHTLY CHILDREN’S ENTERTAINMENT

Enjoy entertainment LEGOLAND-style including character Meet & Greets, Hero Training and Kids Improv Hour.

Put your building skills to the test in our nightly LEGO building competition! Winners receive an awesome LEGO prize!

See the complete schedule of kid’s nightly entertainment at Legoland Hotel HERE.

FREE LEGO AT LEGOLAND HOTEL ROOM WITH LEGO TREASURE HUNT

A paper with treasure hunt questions will be provided to you upon check in, jot down the numbers by searching for clues throughout the Hotel to find the secret combination for the treasure chest in your room. Unlock it to discover a special LEGO surprise inside! There were two LEGO packs inside the treasure chest, make sure to open it. If you can’t figure the code or you’re to tired to hunt for it, just go to the front desk to ask for the code, that’s what I did. Haha.

NO NEED TO BRING LEGOS TO LEGOLAND HOTEL

Besides the free LEGO from the treasure chest. You’ll find a bucket of LEGO bricks in your room to build your own LEGO creations during your stay. There’s also tons of LEGO pits in hotel the lobby.

ENJOY THE LEGOLAND POOL WITH OUTDOOR MOVIES

Splash and play in the zero-entry, heated resort-style pool with LEGO soft bricks to build with while you swim! Pool-side food and beverage service, and cabanas are available for rent seasonally. Swim-In Movies also shown seasonally.

LEGOLAND HOTEL FITNESS CENTER

Accessible 24 hours with your room key card.

LEGOLAND HOTEL MICROWAVE, ICE MACHINE, & VENDING MACHINE

Should you need it, a microwave is available at the vending machine area near the elevator as you head to the the pool or just in front of the fitness center. Ice Machines are located at every floor.

LEGOLAND HOTEL RETAIL SHOP

For last minute shopping before leaving the hotel, the retail shop carries Legos, and more. Located at the lobby and open Daily.

LEGOLAND HOTEL PARKING

Legoland Hotel Entrance is different from the theme park. You will enter through The Crossings Drive while the theme park is through Legoland Drive. Make sure to input Legoland Hotel in your GPS as oppose to just Legoland to end up at this entrance. There is no line here as compared to entering/parking at the theme park.

I would also suggest dropping off your things at the lobby, have one parent watch it or ask for bell service before another parent parks the car as the parking is lower than the hotel. Quite a walk if you carry everything from the parking lot.
