We visited Michael’s Pizzeria in Long Beach over the weekend and their food brought back memories from our honeymoon trip in Italy. And however memorable, we really haven’t talk about that trip for some time now until an authentic Neapolitan style pizza was served to us at Michael’s.
What great memories we had in Italy, including tasting the best Carbonara at Piazza Navona in Rome, a gelato a day and finishing one bottle of wine every night during the whole trip. Thanks Michael’s Pizzeria, I found myself going through old pictures again.
Besides the pizza, I love the clean modern interior and the casual vibe outside if you choose to dine alfresco. Everything we ate tasted fresh. Michael’s Pizzeria pride themselves for making everything from scratch, from the dough to the mozzarella cheese. And you can really taste its freshness here.
They actually change their menu 4 times a year. And since it’s pear season, we got to try the Insalata Riccia Con Pere and I really enjoyed it. Baby kale, candied walnuts, gorgonzola, pear drizzled with honey, what’s not to love. It’s a must order.
Since we visited on a Sunday, we also got to try their brunch offerings and I fell in love with their French brioche toast that was served with strawberry jam and cream. You can also get $3 mimosas, but I went for the Sangria while I watched my kid roll her pizza dough.

You can add Michael’s Pizzeria to your list of Kid-friendly restaurants in Long Beach. They gave my daughter her pizza dough to shaped however she wanted. The Play-Doh loving daughter of mine couldn’t be more excited. I was worried she wouldn’t eat her pizza though, she’s used to American style pizza, but ate the whole thing. Hmm.. she’s ready for Italy or what? LOL.
When it came down to ordering pizza for the adults, I had to get the Carbonara Pizza. I always order spaghetti carbonara in any Italian restaurant, but this is the first time I’m eating it as a pizza. I recommend drizzling it with the slightly spicy olive oil in your table, and finishing it all up or serve room for freshly made gelato, and that’s what we did. I’m also enjoying the leftover Margherita pizza as we speak.
Their gelati are also freshly made. I had the strawberry basil gelato and it was divine. If you love strawberry ice cream over chocolate, you’ll love it. I also saved room for tiramisu and it was nap time after this.
Michael’s Pizzeria is great with friends, for families with kids, date nights, weekend brunch and happy hours. They currently have 3 locations. And I would suggest you visit one of them. We visited the one in Downtown Promenade in Long Beach where you get to stroll and see other establishments as it’s not facing a busy street.
“Michael’s on Naples is rated the #1 restaurant in Long Beach and the #2 Italian restaurant in all of Los Angeles, making it one of the highest Zagat-rated Italian restaurants in Southern California.” per their website.
The servers were all so nice as well, it’s like they really like what they do. And food came out really fast. And I’d have to say their very kind G.M. Chris made sure everything was in order. One of the nicest general managers I’ve seen, seriously.
Next visit, I would like to try their Duck leg confit, squash with chorizo pizza and their Italian Donuts. Sounds yummy already right? What would you guys like to try? Leave your comments below. Ciao.
