Stray Cats, the band that put rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early '80s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual 1950s style brought up-to-date with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos, as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly's original heyday. Formed by guitarist-vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979, the trio shared a love for rockabilly music and after banging around New York and Philadelphia for a few months, in the summer of 1980, they were persuaded by a mutual friend to hop a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. In this concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, the Cats perform their massive hits including "Runaway Boys," "Rock This Town," "Stray Cat Strut" "(She's) Sexy + 17," and "I Won't Stand in Your Way." They'll be joined by openers Cherry Poppin' Daddies, who picked up the swing mantle in the '90s with "Zoot Suit Riot" and "Brown Derby Jump," adding a little ska and a big horn section to the mix. After winning the 11th season of Fox's "American Idol", Phillips leveraged his world-weary vocal style, seasoned jam-oriented rock sensibility and laid-back stage presence with the platinum-selling debut album "The World From The Side of the Moon" and mega-hit tracks like "Home" and "Gone, Gone, Gone." His latest single, "Miles," comes off the disc "Collateral". DeGraw got his big break when his song "I Don't Want To Be," off his debut album "Chariot", became the theme song for the hit CW show "One Tree Hill". The multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated artist has since released several more rock-soul albums, spawning hits like "Not Over You," "In Love With A Girl," "We Both Know" and "She Sets The City On Fire." This time, Sherlock Holmes must enlist the help of the next generation of young detectives after the "great one" himself is attacked by mysterious thugs in a London alley. A thrilling "whodunit" sure to captivate the most dedicated Sherlockian, this is the fourth in a series of delightfully original Sherlock plays written by C.P. Stancich and produced by The Camino Real Theatre. The play has all the elements you would expect from the best Sherlock Holmes mystery and devoted fans will not be disappointed. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic crime solver character, Holmes, is a legendary master of his craft. Doyle is long gone (he died in 1930), but Holmes is very much alive in this production. The script is the work of C.P. Stancich, who has written this play in the style of Sir Conan. It's a seamless script, channeling Doyle and Holmes such that one could barely discern whether this is a product of Doyle or Stancich. A new Sherlock Holmes is in store for Playhouse audiences ... but rest assured that the title role will have the look, the feel, and the gravitas of his distinguished predecessors.
