Our Experience at the America’s Family Pet Expo in Orange County

America’s Family Pet Expo 2014 was held just last weekend. One of our writers – Jody Leighty, attended, photographed and shared her fun experience at the event. Read all about it below:
As a HUGE animal lover, I was more than excited to be going to America’s Family Pet Expo at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa this past weekend. The Pet Expo definitely did not disappoint, as an entire event dedicated to animals is my idea of pure heaven!

There were so many entertaining animal events to watch at the Pet Expo and thanks to the staggered scheduling we were able to catch a lot of them.  The Splash Dogs show was a favorite of my 2 year old son (I enjoyed it as well), the Touch Tank located in the fish exhibits was really cool, Extreme Canines Stunt Dog Show was full of comedy and impressive dog tricks.

My 2-year-old son was really into the outdoor activities.  There was a petting zoo,Human Hamster Wheel, Llamas, Police & Protection Dog Demonstrations & Wiener Dog Races to name a few. We really enjoyed giving love to all of the dog and cats that were up for adoption.  I always seem to find a cat to bond with wherever I go and at this particular event it was Ulysses the cat.  Ulysses is a beautiful white 1-year-old cat that survived a pit bull attack and had also been hit by a car.  I really hope he found a loving home.

At the Pet Expo, it seemed like there was a vendor for everything from pet paint to pet accessories to food (for both animal and person!) to animal and human beds to pet cleaners to hats, pillows, stress therapy, & home products.
My favorite vendor was the CatMan-Doo which is a toilet seat for cats! There was a man, along with four toilets demonstrating how to teach a cat to use the toilet in as little as 3 weeks.  As comical as it sounds, this is a brilliant idea and I had lots of questions surrounding the process.  Although I am not sure how well it would go over teaching my 17-year-old feeble cat to use the toilet, I will definitely be trying this product out if I get another cat in the future.
America’s Family Pet Expo celebrated it’s 25th year this year and let me tell you, not only was this Pet Expo amazing with all of the fun and educational vendor booths but the food vendors were one of the best I have ever seen!  On top of the usual cotton candy, corn dogs & sodas, there were top name vendors like Pink’s Hot Dogs, Hot Dog on a Stick, Beers of The World & Cardinali Wood Fire Pizza.  Oh and did I mention gourmet cupcakes! I could have stayed for breakfast, lunch AND dinner!
At the end of the day I walked away with tons of cat food samples, a Catafornia Republic tank top, a heated neck therapy wrap, free dog toys, and a lot of educational product information regarding animal nutrition.  I was so excited when I found out that a friend who also visited the Pet Expo decided to adopt a sweet little dog. The ride home was even more fun with the fuzzy pup named Russell who now has a new loving home.
