“Old Tanaka had a farm EE II EE II OO…and on his farm he had some PUMPKINS!”
Amidst the urban shops and skyscrapers of Irvine, you’ll find a 30 acre working farm offering organic fruits and vegetables throughout the season. But this time of year it’s all about pumpkins! And we took our lil’ pumpkin picker “Evie” to pick the pumpkin with us.
Tanaka Farms is a three generation family owned farm run by Farmer Tanaka, his wife Shirley and son, Farmer Kenny. They offer a unique family experience on their farm that no other pumpkin patch can provide.
If you’r thinking of going. Start off your visit a “bang” and hop on their wagon which will give you a tour of their farm plus a showing of their famous pumpkin cannon. Next, stop over to the petting zoo where kids can feed baby goats and sheep.
Kids can also have the experience of picking their own vegetables from the vegetable garden. This time it’s okay if they “play with their food” as they dig for carrots, onions, green beans and radishes. Get that camera ready Mom and Dad, this is one time the kids will want their veggies. If veggie picking isn’t your little one’s thing, make your way through the corn maze or try your luck with some toddler friendly carnival games. There’s so much to do while visiting Tanaka Farms, like painting your own pumpkin or riding an atv or my favorite, sitting in the shade with a big bowl of shaved ice. Yum!
Of course before you leave the farm you can’t forget to pick out your own pumpkin straight off the vine. With their huge field you are sure to find the perfect pumpkin.
Overall, Tanaka Farms is a fun family event that will soon become a Halloween tradition.
Don’t forget to visit them throughout the year with their Watermelon Tours (July to August), Cook Out Tours (mid-March through August) and of course their famous Strawberry Tours (mid-March through June). Read our previous blog about our visit during the Strawberry Tours.
