The ride opened on Friday, March 6, 2026, and we had the chance to try it the following Monday. It was just as fun as we hoped—so much so that we wished the ride could go on a little longer, maybe twice as long!

LEGO GALAXY LAND VS GALACTICOASTER

Just to clarify: LEGO Galaxy land is a brand-new area at LEGOLAND California, featuring new rides (including Galacticoaster), new dining options, and new play zones.

Galacticoaster, on the other hand, is a new indoor roller coaster that is now available at both Legoland California and Legoland Florida. Florida didn’t add a whole new land—just the Galacticoaster ride itself.

TIPS FOR RIDING GALACTICOASTER

The popularity of Galacticoaster was obvious, with Legoland guests heading straight to LEGO Galaxy land when we arrived. Based on our experience, here are tips for riding Galacticoaster to shorten wait times and maximize efficiency:

Know the Height Requirements

To ride Galacticoaster, guests must meet the height requirements:

  • a minimum of 36 inches when accompanied by an adult
  • or a minimum of 48 inches to ride unaccompanied

If your kids aren’t tall enough for Galacticoaster but their siblings are, you can take them to Junior Astronaut Training Zone, the new play area right next to the exit of Galacticoaster, while you wait. You may also want to book the LEGO Duplo room at Legoland Hotel, it’s perfect for toddlers.

Junior Astronaut Training Zone is perfect for toddlers or young kids. It is located close to the exit of Galacticoaster.

Use the Parent Swap Option if your Kid/s Can’t Ride

If both parents want to ride Galacticoaster but one or more of your kids can’t, you can use the Parent Swap option so you don’t have to line up again. Just inform the LEGOLAND staff at the loading area.

Your group typically waits in line together, and after getting your RFID wristbands and designing your spacecraft at the touchscreen, one parent rides first while the other stays with the non-riding child. When the first ride ends, the parents switch so the second parent can ride without going through the entire queue again.

Galacticoaster Line at 10 in the morning right when the park opened
The line outside Galacticoaster at 10:11 AM on a Monday. Everyone went straight to Galacticoaster after rope drop. Don’t get overwhelmed; the lines move along pretty well.

Go on other rides first if the Galacticoaster line is long

Since Galacticoaster just opened, everyone will go there first. Though the line actually moves along pretty quickly, you can benefit from having fewer to no lines at other famous rides at LEGOLAND while everyone is at LEGO Galaxy land and coming back to ride Galacticoaster around noontime or afternoon.

For context, here’s what happened to our visit to LEGO Galaxy to ride Galacticoaster 3 days after it officially opened:

We arrived at LEGOLAND around 930 AM. After going through the gates and parking at around 945 AM, we were inside LEGOLAND theme park at around 9:55 AM.

Legoland Rope Drop
Inside Legoland theme park where everyone is waiting for rope drop (10 AM) to go straight to LEGO Galaxy

Guests had to wait until 10 AM at the roped-off area, and for a Monday, it felt surprisingly crowded. I was thinking, is everyone on Spring Break?

As we were allowed in and everyone started walking, no one went to other rides except a handful that went to Emmet’s Flying Adventure Ride at LEGO Movie World land. Everyone was headed to ride Galacticoaster!!!

Once we got there, the line was already all the way out the door and past the queue ropes. The good news was that the line to Galacticoaster actually moved pretty quickly.

After receiving your RFID wristbands, you’re assigned a number in line that corresponds to the interactive touchscreen where you’ll design your spacecraft.

After an exciting ride, we stayed at LEGO Galaxy land to check out all the new attractions and had an early lunch at U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet).

After lunch, around 11:50 AM, we noticed there was no longer a line outside, so we went for a second ride. I guess, once people got on Galacticoaster, the crowd spread out, and the park actually felt much calmer.

Consider getting a Fastrack during weekends or peak vacation season

If it’s within the budget, consider getting the Platinum Fastrack so you can access a separate line that is shorter than the regular line at Galacticoaster and all other rides. This is especially beneficial when visiting on a weekend or during peak vacation season like Spring Break, Summertime, or holidays.

The Platinum Fastrack allows you one-time access to the 3 rides at LEGO Galaxy land (Galacticoaster, G-Force Test Facility, and Launch & Land), plus unlimited access to all available rides at LEGOLAND.

Please note that there are other Fastrack options (4 total), but only the Platinum one can be used for LEGO Galaxy rides.

Take advantage of the Galacticoaster Single Rider Line

Galacticoaster has a Single Rider line. If you don’t mind being grouped with other people, consider going on the Single Rider line for a shorter wait time, where you will be grouped with other people on the 4-rider roller coaster ride.

Leave your loose items in the FREE locker or your child’s stroller

The following items are not allowed on Galacticoaster and must be stored in the lockers located next to the ride, which are free for up to two hours.

  • backpacks
  • bags
  • hats
  • water bottles
  • other loose items

There is a large locker and a small locker. Tip: if everyone is lined up to the big locker, just walk to the left where the small lockers are located. People don’t know it’s there as it’s not easily visible.

Smaller locker to the left of Galacticoaster; free for use for 2 hours. We were able to fit 1 backpack with 2 water bottles, 1 jacket, 2 small purses, and 1 fanny pack.

Alternatively, if the items you need to leave aren’t valuable, you can leave them on your child’s stroller if you brought one. There is a stroller parking area to the left of the Galacticoaster and also just outside G-Force Test Facility ride.

Have lunch at LEGO Galaxy Land

My tip to riding Galacticoaster again is to stay at LEGO Galaxy land for lunch so you can easily head back to the ride. Galacticoaster is visible from the newly added dining options at LEGOLAND, including U.F.O. (Ultimate Food Outlet) where we ate, Satellite Bites, and even Stardust Treats for dessert.

Since Galacticoaster is within sight of U.F.O., we quickly noticed that the line had thinned compared to our first ride, so we quickly hopped on for a second ride.

Book a VIP Experience for Priority Access to Galacticoaster

For the ultimate LEGOLAND trip, you can book the VIP Experience and have a host take you around LEGOLAND and have priority access to all the rides, including Galacticoaster. It starts at $695 per person, and you have a dedicated VIP host, priority ride access, valet parking, delicious dining, LEGO gifts, and a behind-the-scenes model shop tour.

IS GALACTICOASTER WORTH RIDING?

Galacticoaster indoor roller coaster exceeded my expectations and is totally worth it. It’s fast, exciting, and interactive. It also adds more things to do at LEGOLAND with older kids. My only wish was that they made it longer, like twice as long, and it would have been perfect. But it being shorter may actually work better for younger kids who are just going on their first roller coaster ride.

Before boarding the Galacticoaster, Biff Deeper briefs riders on our mission.

Galacticoaster is not just a straight-up roller coaster ride. You go through a pre-show briefing from Biff Dipper (robotic minifigure), followed by designing your own spacecraft using an interactive touch screen, before riding the indoor roller coaster. Each guest’s creation is digitally stored on an RFID wristband and brought to life throughout the ride.

Customize your spacecraft 625 ways
Touchscreen to design our spacecraft’s nose, tail, wings, and a special feature. There are 625 unique combinations. You are given a set amount of time to choose each, so everyone can leave the area at the same time to go on the ride.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Is Galacticoaster suitable for toddlers or young kids?

Galacticoaster indoor roller coaster is suitable for young kids who like fast rides. It twists left and right, up and down, for up to a speed of 40 miles per hour. It’s mostly a fast ride with no long drop.

There is a height requirement, so Galacticoaster may not be suitable for toddlers unless they are a minimum of 36 inches tall, accompanied by an adult.

It’s indoor and spaced-themed so though it’s in a dark setting like you’re in space, kids won’t be scared of Galacticoaster as there are coordinated lighting effects that simulate stars, planets, and cosmic visuals, and bright highlights and accent lights that make set pieces and LEGO elements pop.

If young kids end up getting scared during the ride, it’s worth noting that Galacticoaster is relatively short and gentle compared to major thrill coasters, so the experience passes quickly.

How many times can you ride Galacticoaster without Fastrack?

You don’t need a Fastrack to ride Galacticoaster, and you can ride the indoor roller coaster as many times as you want without one. Platinum Fastrack allows you one-time access to a shorter line, so if you purchase one, my tip is to use it when it’s really busy, then ride again (if you want) when it’s not as busy using the regular line.

Can you take backpacks or items on Galacticoaster?

You cannot take any loose items or bags to ride Galacticoaster, but LEGOLAND provides a free 2hr use of their locker, and it is located next to the ride. You will need to scan the code that’s on the locker using your mobile phone to open the locker. Check my tips about locker and stroller parking above.

How long are the wait times at Galacticoaster?

On a Monday morning, at 10:11 AM, Galacticoaster took us 35 minutes from the start of the line to exiting the ride when the line was all the way outside the door. During noon, at 11:50 AM, the line started inside the door, and it took a total of 30 minutes from the start of the line to exiting the ride. Note that we visited 3 days after the ride officially opened.

Can LEGOLAND Hotel or LEGOLAND Castle Hotel Guests ride Galacticoaster using Early Access Pass?

No. Galacticoaster is not part of the Early Access list of rides, which is a benefit of those staying at LEGOLAND Hotel or Castle Hotel. But, since hotel guests will be able to enter LEGOLAND earlier than regular park guests, they can be in front of the rope drop line headed to LEGO Galaxy land, thus, they will be the first few to ride once the rope opens at the official theme park opening time – 10 AM or 10:30 AM (varies by date).

Check LEGOLAND Hotel VS Castle Hotel to know which hotel is better for your family before booking and Legoland Hotel Deals for the best deals on hotel stays.

Can Annual Passholders skip the lines for Galacticoaster?

No. Annual Passholders do not have a skip-the-line perk to Galacticoaster or any rides at Legoland, but they are allowed to buy a Fastrack (skip the lines) or VIP Tour at a discount.

Passholders were also given a Passholder Preview to Galacticoaster before it officially opened to the public.

LEGOLAND Galacticoaster VS. Disneyland Space Mountain

Both are indoor roller coasters, but Legoland’s Galacticoaster is more kid-friendly, shorter, more lit, and not as scary as Disneyland’s Space Mountain. Both kids and adults can enjoy Galacticoaster!
