I get asked a lot whether Legoland is worth it because we frequent Legoland California and have visited Legoland Florida as well. The quick answer to that is if your kids are young, it’s worth it, but if they are primarily into thrill rides, then it’s not!
I’ve put together my honest opinion on whether Legoland is worth it, pros and cons, what age is it best for, if Legoland is also fun for adults, what we personally love about Legoland and what we don’t, and if it’s worth the money.

Our kids pretty much grew up at Legoland, starting when they were toddlers, and they are now pre-teen and teen, and we still go, though less now. Both have gone on scary rides at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios Hollywood, and as a family, we find Disneyland to be magical, but we still visit Legoland at least once a year, especially when there’s an event, so I want to share whether Legoland is worth visiting for toddlers, young kids, teenagers, and even adults.
Pros: Legoland Is an All-In One Destination
Legoland is an all-in-one resort destination. If you’re visiting Legoland (California and Florida), you’re not limited to just visiting the theme park; you also have the option to visit SeaLife Aquarium and Legoland Waterpark (open seasonally) without driving out. You even have Lego-themed hotel/s just steps away from the park. Having so many attractions and activities all in one place makes Legoland worth visiting.

The aquarium is located next to the front entrance of the theme park, while the waterpark is located inside the theme park via another gate. This allows you to do more in one destination. You have the option to visit it all in 1-day or spread it out with a 2-day ticket.
As an adult, I find the aquarium to be on the smaller side, but I think it’s just the right size for kids, so they don’t get overwhelmed or tired since they’re already spending a great deal of their time at the theme park.
As of 2026, only Legoland California and Florida have a water park. Legoland New York does not have a waterpark or an aquarium yet, but they do have a water playground.
If you want to know the difference, read Legoland Florida VS Legoland California for an in-depth comparison of the parks.
Pros: Legoland was Designed for Young Kids
LEGOLAND is geared towards kids ages 2 to 12. If you have young kids, Legoland is totally worth visiting, especially if they are not ready for the big thrill rides. Families can enjoy various rides, shows, activities, play areas, and events throughout the year.

Legoland is like your kids’ first theme park before they move on to the bigger thrill rides at Disneyland or Universal Studios.
The best age for Legoland is between 4 and 10, where kids will be able to go on most rides and remember the experience. Our kids like gentler rides, and had only started going on roller coasters when they were probably around 10 or 11, so we got the most out of Legoland because, compared to other theme parks where only a section is created for young kids, at Legoland, the entire park is for young kids to enjoy.
There are about 27 rides at Legoland California, about 24 at Legoland Florida, and about 20 in New York. On top of that, there are plenty of hands-on activities you can do, plus a ton of things to do at the Water Park as well, if you decide to include that. So all in all, the number of rides and activities means there’s rarely a shortage of things to do.
Cons: Legoland Rides are not Scary Enough
Some kids are ready for the thrill rides at a young age, and Legoland only offers a few, which may not be thrilling enough for them, nor for teenagers, and adults who prefer to go on big rides. For this reason, Legoland is not worth it for teenagers.

If your kids are ready for the big rides like those available at Six Flags, Legoland will not be worth their time, and they may get bored.
There are roller coasters at Legoland, but they are not as high, and there are no loops that put them upside down, in case that’s what your kids are looking for.
At Legoland California, there are 4 coasters, including the newly added indoor Galacticoaster at Galaxy Land.
Pros: Kids Can Visit For Free
Legoland may sound expensive to visit, but it’s not. There’s actually an offer where kids ages 2 to 12 can visit for free with a paid adult ticket, making Legoland worth it for families, as you’ll be paying less than going to other theme parks.
Take advantage of the Legoland Free Kids Ticket offer:
- Legoland California Kids Go Free – $139 ($69.50 per person)
- Legoland Florida Kids Go Free – $129 to $154 ($64.50 to $77 per person)
- Legoland New York Kids Go Free – $94 ($47 per person)
- Kids FREE San Diego (California, October only) – Buy One Adult ticket and get One Child ticket for FREE

If Legoland takes these offers out, kids can still visit for less; you just need to look for a Legoland discount offer, and there are a ton available throughout the year.
As an example, Legoland released a limited-time offer where kids ages 2 to 12 could visit for as low as $39 back in January.
Pros: Legoland has way Shorter Water Times than Disneyland
If you have young kids and are deciding between Legoland VS Disneyland, Legoland is worth visiting over Disneyland, as the whole Legoland was created with young kids in mind, so they can go on pretty much all the rides, and Legoland has shorter wait times than Disneyland, plus cheaper tickets too.

Young ones can get really impatient at theme parks, yet I’ve never heard a kid cry at Legoland, and that’s probably because lines to the rides are way shorter than if you visit Disneyland.
There are probably about 3 – 4 rides that would have a line on a busy day, but you still have a ton of other rides to choose from, or just go early so you can visit the popular rides at Legoland before everyone else.
Both California and Florida Legolands also have a water park (except Legoland New York only has a water playground), which adds an additional activity for the kids to do all in one visit.
Pros: Various Events at Legoland are FREE
Events at Legoland are typically included with admission, so you can enjoy even more during your visit. Although the park may be busier than usual, the additional activities and shows make it worth visiting when an event is taking place.
Our eldest is a huge LEGO enthusiast, and so she really enjoyed the LEGO Festival event, where there were a lot of LEGO building activities spread out throughout the park, while her younger sis went from one roller coaster to another.
Pros: Always new Legoland rides being added or re-imagined
LEGOLAND is really investing in the park, like adding a new land or a new ride, so there is something new to look forward to, whether it’s your first time visiting or you are thinking of getting an annual pass (currently discounted).

For 2026, Legoland Florida added an indoor roller coaster, while Legoland California added a space-themed Galaxy land featuring also the indoor roller coaster, other new rides, a dining area, play areas, and more. All in all, a $90 million investment was added to both parks.
Legoland New York added LEGO Ferrari Build & Race in March, 2026.

Cons: Our Favorite Rides Got Replaced
I did say that Legoland adds in more rides, which is great, but at times this also means re-theming old rides or getting rid of old rides or sections that have been a family favorite. This won’t affect 1st-time visitors, but for families who frequent Legoland, this is bittersweet.
For Legoland California:
- Our daughter’s favorite Fairy Tale Brook ride had been re-themed to a dinosaur-themed boat ride. Same ride but different look.
- The whole LEGO Friends section became LEGO Movie, and though I think it is better, I still wish LEGO Friends stayed coz’ that’s the set my daughter collected over the years.
- The kids’ favorite Driving School had also been moved and became smaller, so LEGOLAND could make way for the indoor roller coaster.
I wish LEGOLAND had more land to build on rather than changing existing sections.
Pros: LEGO Build Activities throughout the Park
Legoland isn’t just about rides—kids can also build with LEGO throughout the park. There are different building areas set up where both kids and adults can jump in and start creating. They don’t have lines, so you can just walk up, grab some bricks, and start building right away.

Some spots even have themed builds or little challenges, which makes it even more fun, like building a LEGO boat and racing it down the water.
The LEGO building activities are pretty unique if you’re looking for hands-on things for your kids that you won’t really find at other theme parks, which makes Legoland worth checking out.
Pros: Convenience of having Legoland hotels within walking distance of Legoland
The Lego-themed hotels at Legoland make going to Legoland a lot of fun and worth it. There are various Legoland Hotel discounts if you are worried about the cost.
The Lego-themed hotels are literally steps away from the theme park. Whenever we visit, we take a short nap at the hotel, then go back to the park for more fun. If we are visiting the waterpark, this also allows us to shower back at the hotel, then go back for more rides at the theme park.

If you typically stay overnight after a day at any theme park versus driving back home, Legoland is ideal for you, as you just exit the park, and the hotel is already right there.
Staying overnight also provides guests with early access to Legoland, closer parking, and a FREE breakfast buffet at the hotel.
Lego themed-hotels at various Legoland:
- Legoland California: Legoland Hotel & Legoland Castle Hotel
- Legoland Florida: Legoland Hotel & Legoland Pirate Island Hotel & Legoland Beach Retreat
- Legoland New York: Legoland Hotel
I must note that staying at Legoland Hotel, though so worth it, can get quite pricey. Check LEGOLAND Hotel discounts so you can save up to 30% off hotel and ticket packages, and during Black Friday, it can go as high as 60% off.
If you are going to Legoland California, check Legoland Hotel VS Castle Hotel for a detailed comparison of which hotel is better.
Cons: Legoland is Far from Major Cities
Legoland is not situated in major cities, so you’ll find Legoland California far from Disneyland and other major attractions in Los Angeles, like Hollywood. And Legoland Florida is far from Disney World and other theme parks in Orlando. And Legoland New York is also a drive away from New York City. Each park is about an hour away from the main metropolitan area. If you are a foreign tourist or visiting from out of state, this means additional travel time and rental car cost.
This is probably the biggest thing we don’t like about Legoland, the fact that it’s quite a drive from us. But on the other hand, Legoland being away from major cities is what also keeps it from being crowded like other parks.
It doesn’t mean it’s not worth the drive, though. Legoland is still worth the drive because there really isn’t anything else quite like it nearby.

Pros: Play Areas Provide Downtime for Parents
Legoland has play areas and play structures around the park, so kids are not limited to just going on the rides. Some parents might think, why would I bring my kids to a theme park and pay for tickets when I can just take them to a playground. Well, the play areas at Legoland are different, and honestly, it allows parents a much-needed break coz’ the kids really play a long time at these fun play areas. Best time for parents to sit around and eat apple fries in peace while the kids play.

Play Areas at Legoland:
- Legoland California – Hideaways, Benny’s Playship, Duplo Playtown, Lego Ninjago Training Camp
- Legoland Florida – Benny’s Play Ship, Duplo Tot Spot
- Legoland New York – The Wharf, Lego Duplo Peppa Pig Playground
Is Legoland Worth it for Teenagers?
For many teenagers, LEGOLAND may not be worth it because most attractions are geared toward younger children. While the park is well-themed and family-friendly, teens looking for bigger thrills and more intense rides may find the experience somewhat limited compared with other theme parks.
If they have younger siblings and need to tow along, they may still enjoy themselves with some of the roller coasters, LEGO build activity, eating theme park food, and the water park.
Check our list of theme park discount tickets if they’d rather visit other ones.

Why do our Kids Love Legoland?
I asked our kids why they love Legoland; they are now much older than the target audience of Legoland. Both answered, coz I love Legoland! I said I needed a more specific answer (for the blog). The eldest (teenager) said coz she loves Legos, and she grew up at Legoland, so it’s nostalgia for her. The pre-teen who just started riding roller coasters said, “Because I like Technicoaster, Ninjago Ride, and the Wave Pool at the water park”.

Is Legoland Worth it for Adults?
Legoland is also fun for adults if you’re into LEGOs, and unlike the indoor Legoland Discovery Center, you don’t need to bring a kid to visit Legoland theme parks!
Adults can go on some of the Legoland rides (with or without the kids), enjoy the shows, and if you’re a big LEGO fan, you’ll really enjoy the LEGO cities on display at the Miniland area.

Legoland California also has the biggest selection of LEGO products on the West Coast, so if you love collecting LEGO sets or just want a cute LEGO keychain, visiting the newly renovated LEGO Store inside LEGOLAND is a must.
So, Legoland is worth it for adults if you are a LEGO fan or just there to leisurely enjoy the park with managed expectations.
If you’re a parent or grandparent, accompanying the young ones, going on the rides with them is a lot of fun. My personal favorite is The Ninjago Ride — an interactive ride where you throw fireballs, ice blasts, lightning, and shockwaves by swiping your hands in the air to defeat enemies and rack up points.
Prior Personal Experience as an Adult (without kids) Visiting Legoland
My husband and I visited Legoland before we had kids, actually, even before we were married. We went there on a date and had a lot of fun because it’s such a unique experience. Legoland is a LEGO-themed amusement park, making it very unique compared to other theme parks that simply offer rides. They’re not thrill rides; we just wanted a relaxing and unique experience since we’ve already visited all the other theme parks in California. We went there to go on some rides, walk around, eat food, and buy LEGO keychains (Batman for him, Batgirl for me).
Bonus: Unique Lego Display
Since Legoland is obviously LEGO-themed, you’ll find LEGO cities at Miniland that you won’t really find at other theme parks. If your kids love LEGOs, this is fascinating for them, or for you, if you are an adult who appreciates LEGOs.

You’ll also find LEGO displays and characters around the park that are great photo opportunities.
Worth the Drive: Apple Fries available at LEGOLAND only
Legoland is the only place where I can get apple fries, and that alone makes the trip worth it. They come with whipped cream that you can dip in when you visit Legoland California, while Florida offers the addition of a soft-serve. It’s a popular treat at Legoland, and while some may not like it, our family loves it.

The only downside is that it’s only available at one location in the park. I wish they would add another kiosk just by the park entrance so I can get another one on the way out.
Cons: Chima Water Park opens later than the Water Park (California)
When visiting Legoland California, be aware that there is a Legoland Waterpark, then another Chima Waterpark located inside it that opens a few weeks later (June 13, 2026 opening). They don’t open it all at the same time, so the wave pool that we love, which is located at Chima waterpark, is not open during our visit to the waterpark. For a future visit, we’re really gonna wait for everything to be open before going.
Check our Tips for visiting Legoland Water Park (California and Florida).
Cons: Parking Entrance Can Take Forever
At Legoland California, there is ample parking, but getting into the parking lot can take time; it’s just not as efficient. If you are going, try to go earlier than the park’s opening time. If you arrive close to it, you may get stuck at the entrance for a bit.
Cons: Legoland California is not Flat
Legoland California is not always an easy trek, as it is not flat, and though it is not that visible, as it’s not that evident nor extreme, your legs will feel it after a few hours of walking. It’s not a big issue, but worth noting so you can make sure to bring your kids’ stroller, as they will get tired easily.
At Legoland Florida, we didn’t have a hard time; it was flat.
Final Verdict: Is Legoland Worth It?
Visiting Legoland is totally worth it for families with young kids, as it offers family-friendly rides, play areas, LEGO build opportunities, character meet & greets, LEGO displays and decor, additional events throughout the year, and tons of photo opportunities all included in an admission ticket.
Legoland is also worth it for adults if you are a LEGO fan or if you just want a new experience and don’t mind calmer rides, just walking around the park, and enjoying some Apple Fries (or crepes & churros).
Legoland may not be worth it if you want a theme park filled with thrill rides, your kids are now pre-teens or teenagers, or you’re an out-of-town guest pressed for time, and the Legoland location is far from the main city where you are staying.
With a large number of rides and activities, and various Legoland discount ticket offers, Legoland offers a lot for the price and makes it cost-effective for families.
The convenience of having Legoland Hotel that is walking distance from the park, plus an aquarium and waterpark also in the same location, makes it an all-in-one fun destination both for the kids and adults alike.
Legoland New York still has a lot of catching up to do in terms of having more rides and activities, but they have rides that are not available in California and Florida, so it may be worth checking out as well if you’re closer to that location.
