What is Newport Beach Boat Parade
The tradition began over one hundred years ago. The humble beginnings included only about a dozen boats that sailed the water with decorations. Now? If you attend the Newport Beach Boat Parade, you’ll see elaborate Christmas light displays of bayfront estates with their Ring Of Lights competition and one of the largest decorated boat parades in the country.
If you attend the 2019 Newport Beach Boat Parade, expect to see hundreds of boat with unique and extravagant displays. It is not uncommon for yacht owners to spend tens of thousands of dollars on the decorations. Along with holiday lights, special effects and themes make decorations much more than just the light displays you may be accustomed to. Ships of all sizes enter the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade from multimillion-dollar yachts to kayaks and canoes.
Bayfront estates and their landscapes take part in their own competition called the “Ring Of Lights”. You will see bayfront homes/docks/yards in extravagant holiday lights displays and decor. Yachting companies and other businesses that line the bay also get into the spirit creating a ring of lights around most of Newport Bay.

Know Before You Go
Parking at Newport Beach Boat Parade is difficult due to the popularity of the event. Try to arrive at least an hour prior to your departure time. If you have a weekend departure add another 30 minutes. The early departure is more tricky on the busiest nights of the parade, Friday and Saturday night.
Parking options on the Balboa Peninsula include the public parking lot next to the Balboa Pier, the parking structure next to Newport Landing, and valet parking next to Balboa Pavilion. The public lot next to the Balboa pier is your best choice with a huge number of spots.
There are also metered parking spaces around the pier public lot and these spots are free after 6:00 pm.
What to Bring
Along with bringing the right clothing for the Newport Beach Boat Parade other items that are great to have include a map of the area, camera, cash/change, contact number(s), snacks, blanket, and thermos full of a hot beverage. Having a map of the area will give you a good idea of where you are at and what you can expect whether traveling into the Newport Beach area or once aboard your ship traveling in the parade.
